Good Teen Vegetarian Recipes?

I am usually left to cook myself...especially during school and after dance practices. It's always the same stuff, affordable and easy...

Salad, PB sandwiches, hot pockets, veggie pizza, ravioli (Squash and cheese), Veggie dumplings, brown rice with veggies, fettucini alfredo...

I need some good and easy ideas a teen can make from buying stuff at Target or Wal*Mart. Any help is appreciated! :-D

emma, you are ignorant. meat is full of colesterol, hormones, artery clogging fats, byproducts and other carcinogens, never mind that vegans have an extremely low obesity rate.

but peta has great recipes, try vegcooking.com i think. all the peta website are full of recipes. peta2.com has a huge list of 99.9% and higher vegan foods alvalible at most chain grocery stores. my favourite non-healthy food is perogis or whatever those mashed potato filled noodle things are. you can buy them in the freezer section but my mom makes ghetto homeade ones!

you need stuffed shells and instant mashed potatoes. cook the noodle so they're still a little hard and won't break, make the potoes but with a little less milk/water so their a little sticky/firm and fill the noodles then melt a little margerine in the micro and pour it over the top and tiny chopped onions if you like them and put them in the oven till the get a little crispy. you don't have to bake them but they're good that way. the broken noodles you can fill are really good with margerine and fake parmasion(sp?) cheese. i can send you tons of recipes if you email me!

Some of the best veggie cookbooks are the Moosewood Cookbook, ( there have put out a lot of cookbooks ) The book A Diet For a Small Planet is very good, he gives really good nutritional breakdowns of how to combine foods so you have all the proteins you need. Vegetarian Times also is a good mag and they put out some good cookbooks.

Did you know that rice cooked together with beans such as black beans or navy beans have all the amino acid proteins when combined.

Another easy way of doing this is peanut butter on whole wheat with a glass of milk.

It depends on what type of veggie you are - if you eat milk or egg products there are a lot more choices.

I do lots of asian and indian food dishes and also rice and beans, Mexican food, and Italian recipes like fettucini alfredo. Soups are also really easy. I also do lots of stir fries with rice and broccoli.

Spaghetti and Garlic Bread is yummy and easy. Requires about 40 minutes, but not much work involved if you just use the PRego.

Try making pizza using hamburger buns, Bagels, or Pita Bread as the "crust" That might be different enough to make it fun and tasty. "scramble" some tofu and put that on top. Yum!

Uhm.. do you eat mayo or have mayo replacement around? if so, you can slice and "fry" some tofu in a little oil (or none if you want, in a teflon skillet) Before frying, rub the slices of tofu with soy sauce, nutritional yeast, and an animal-product free "poultry seasoning." Fry on low heat, turning over as needed. Makes great "meat" for a sandwich! Add tomatoes or whatever you like! Also get some fake bacon from the frozen veggie meat section of the grocery (MANY groceries carry Morning STar Farm Breakfast Strips). Make a BLT!! Can you say YUM?

Get veggie burger crumbles or crumble Tofu. For the tofu, "scramble" it in a pan until a little firmer and dryer. Then add tons of BBQ sauce and a little tiny bit of water, get it nice and hot and well-cooked and you have a "sloppy joe" Trust me This way is even better tasting than many sloppy joe mixes. For the burger, you don't need to pre-cook before adding the sauce. Just put crumbles and a bunch of sauce in the non-stick pan, add a teeny bit of water (Keepng in mind that if the crumbles are frozen, they will release some more "water" Into the mix as they thaw, and you don't want the BBQ sauce too dilute or thin.) Cook over med-not TOO high until hot, thawed, seasoned, and yummy!!

well, i know you can buy tofu at walmart, and that is really good in pasta. you can make ramen noodle soup, which you just dont use the flavoring if it is beef or chicken. uuuum, i think you can get boca burgers, which are the bomb, but make sure its boca, not garden burger as those are nasty. you can get morningstar veggie corn dogs and eggs florintine, and in the dry goods i really like the microwave Indian cusine (pasta with veggies or tofu, whatever you want) Also, you can buy refried beans and hot sauce and cheese and tortillas then microwave a burrito. there are endless possibilities.

I dont know if you are aware but many alfredo sauces and cheeses are not vegetarian friendly...they contain a slaughterhouse product called animal rennet. Then again, you may be using non animal rennet cheeses.

A teen can make anything an adult can. How about veggie stir fry with teriyaki sauce, BLT using soy bacon, spaghetti tossed with extra virgin olive oil and minced garlic, vegetable soup, grilled cheese and tomato sandwich.

I recently found vegan breaded eggplant cutlets that I pour a good sauce over, top with shredded mozzerella and bake. Very easy and very good.

Have you ever tried tofu? It's inexpensive protein that takes on the fllavor of whatever you cook it with. I like to cut it in small cubes and brown it in spices and teriaki or hoisin sauce, then put it in a stirfry with whatever veggies appeal to me at the moment. I also like having red or black beans and brown rice in diced tomatoes with green chilis.

Always keep curry powder or spices in your cupboard, along with cans of tomatoes, chick peas, or any type of bean or vegetable that you like. to this you can add any fresh veg that you have in, to make curry or chilli, to serve with rice, potatoes or wraps. Chick peas and beans can be mashed or blended with onion, herbs and breadcrumbs to make easy burgers- lovely with cumin, cilantro and garlic. I make a nice dip/sauce from natural yoghurt with cilantro and mint sauce (from a jar) which is good with hot curry, or on burgers. Cook some pasta, then chill it and eat as a salad with diced veg, feta cheese and mayo or yoghurt. Salads can be perked up by adding sunflower or pumpkin seeds, fruit, and roasted veg which you can prepare in advance. Cut onions, peppers, carrots, zucchini, eggplant into even sized chunks, drizzle with oil and bake in a hot oven for about 15 minutes. Make potato salad from cooked potatoes, and if you eat eggs, have cold boiled eggs in the fridge to go with it. There are loads of options.

My fav sandwich right now is hummus, avocado, spinach and tomato slices with or without cheese. 7 or 12 grain bread is always a good way to go for carbs and energy, and bulks up the sandwich. keep up the good work!

I love this recipe that I invented myself. It doesn't take long to make and it is vegetarian and delicious!

Vegetarian Chip Dip

ingredients:

1 bag of meatless ground beef substitute like Morning Star

16 oz. of sour cream

1 bag of shredded cheese

(optional) chives

1. Cook meatless meat until done.

2. Get a container and layer all of ingredients like - sour cream, cheese, meatless meat, cheese, sour cream, cheese, chives.

3. Get a bag of plain chips and enjoy. The dip is usually better if it is chilled before consuming.

Vegetarian sloppy joes. Get some vegetarian mock beef crumbles, and a can of sloppy joe mix and cook it together. Poor mixture over open-faced hamburger buns.

I make tortillas for myself a lot. Just get whatever veggies you want in it, (I put nuts in it sometimes too) fry them and about halfway through, sprinkle in some flavouring. Wrap them in a flour tortilla and voilla! ^_^

They're pretty good with couscous.

ok it might sound wierd but i swear its good.

Pickle and Bacos sandwich.

i know i know but they're really easy to make not fattening and usually really good.

you need

pickle chips.

baco's without real bacon.

mayonaisse. now if you don't eat real mayonaisse like me you have to get nayanaisse or veganaisse or almond mayonaisse..and i don't think they would have that at target or walmart...but you don't HAVE to use it...it just makes it a lot better...

2 slices of bread....whole wheat is perfect.

yeah and then you put your mayonaisse of choice onto both sides of the bread. cover one side of bread with baco's then put some pickles on there.

because you couldn't figure that out yourself...:Djk.

i also hear that peanut butter and baco's is good...that sounds weird too but i think it might be good..

For fast food besides getting salads you could order a hamburger or cheeseburger with no meat but add mayo lettuce and tomato for a fast food veggie sandwich. I know Mc Donald's does this and I'm sure others do as well.

can of black beans

white, or brown, rice

sour cream.

sprinkle on top before serving:

scallions or chopped onion and

soy bacon pieces

that's it....believe it or not, this is one, easy, tasty treat. (And can be made even healthier by using low fat sour cream and crumbled bacon bits.
