Why do people think that all vegans are annoying?

I live my life in peace. I don't hurt anyone or argue with people all the times, and still, whenever I talk to people that eat meat they say that all vegans are annoying and that they preach, which I never do. Where is this misperception coming from?

A lot of vegans either push their lifestyle choices on others and guilt-tree people. Nobody wants to feel guilty or attacked all the time, so non-vegans (even ovo-lacto vegetarians) can get irritated or nervous around outspoken vegans. The other thing is that when you have a group of friends and one person is vegan, that person can sometimes affect the entire group. For example, it's a party, and a cake is baked. If the vegan in question is not a selfish jerk, they will accept that they just can't eat the cake. If they are, however, they will demand that the cake be a vegan cake, even though that may be less enjoyable to everyone else. Or if everyone else wants to try a restaurant but there's only one vegan option on the menu, an annoying vegan will demand a different restaurant. It's fine as long as they can be accepting of others and also not push their lifestyle choice upon others. But when they do, it's just really obnoxious.

It's due to the stereotype of vegans preaching about how "better" their lifestyle is, and that they're not murderers, and that they're smarter than meat-eaters.



Now there are some people like that (I'm 100% that not all vegans are like that), who are annoying. But it's just a stereotype, like atheists bashing on religion or muslims being terrorists. Not everyone does what they think of. *I'm looking at you, Wild Bill*



But don't worry. Just don't start arguing with one who says so.

Because most vegans are preachy and not only do they promote how healthy their lifestyle is to everyone (well they think being vegan is healthy), but they actually try changing your diet if you make friends with them. They are like weird zealots, I've known people like that, so freaking annoying. They also guilty trip you and they constantly say mean things about people who eat meat. Also, they obviously know their children are not getting good proteins but they don't care, they just feed their children all disgusting vegan foods when their children are at the critical stage of growing bones and brains.

Some vegans are really really annoying and aggressive bullies and they give the rest a bad name. Some vegans have moved on to call themselves plant based or herbivores because of this. They don't want to eat animal products but they don't want to be associated with vegans either! The Happy Herbivore would be one example.

I don't think vegans are annoying. There are some annoying ones out there though, but that doesn't mean all vegans are. That's just prejudice, like saying "blondes are dumb". You just have to deal with it. It's part of living on this planet. You have to fight it and not let it get you down, because if you do, then they've won.

In a way they are like Atheists that can't stop talking about religion only they can't stop talking about eating meat. The have veggie burgers that resemble meat wtf is that about? If I eat meat I don't go around annoying vegans about why they should eat meat however they are thankfully in the minority.

I do think vegans that want the whole world to be vegan are . unfortunately for respectful people like your self when you say you are vegan someone is going to remember a demonstration of people wrapped in plastic laying in coolers outside the mall (actually happened) as if that will sway me from my omnivorous ways

It comes from the fact that a lot of vegans are preachy about how their lifestyle is just *so* much better than everyone else's. A lot of them aren't, of course, like you, and personally, I would judge whether a vegan was annoying or not on a case-by-case basis.

Well, in the 20ish years I've been vegan I've never met anyone who thinks all vegans are annoying, or preachy.



But there are, of course, people unimaginative enough to make (and even believe) sweeping generalisations about groups of people - based on such flimsy evidence as the appearance, diets, beliefs, interests, gender etc of a particular group.



And though I've never come across one in real life, there are contributors to this forum who make absurd generalisations about vegans.



One regular repeatedly states that all vegans are ignorant, aggressive, rude, over-emotional, uptight and edgy - among other derogatory adjectives.



Another regularly says all vegans (yes, ALL) are liars; example - 'as we all know, vegans lie'.



These are unimaginative people with little life experience and an axe to grind, in my opinion.



In the case of your friends - well, you say that these comments are made 'whenever I talk to people that eat meat'. So although you don't feel you come across as preachy, this suggests that you frequently bring up the subject of your veganism, which might be what annoys them
