about 85 percent of Indians think cows are sacred yet, they serve beef on their menus, how could they do that? How could they just buy beef and serve it? Also many Indians are vegetarians yet most things on the menu have meat

Not all Indian restaurant owners are Hindus, and not all Hindus are vegetarians or even particularly religious.
My wife is Hindu, some of my in laws are vegetarians, some aren't.

Beef is served in restaurants mostly outside India than in India to please the crowd. India does not only have Hindus but a lot of other religions that eat beef. Some people eat it because they are not religious.
On an average too, food served outside India doesn't taste very Indian and is more reflective of what the local taste demands of Indian foods. It is much subtle on the spices as well as flavors. Also, in India you have thousands of vegetarian restaurants, more than any other country so people can choose to eat safely.
Just so you know, even though Hindus do not eat beef, you will find them using leather goods. Yes, double standards are found everywhere.

I'm Indian and Hindu and i can assure you that probably ony 0.1% of hindu's are okay with eating the sacred cow. however there are some people who are just out there to make money. Theres also a great chance that those restaurants aren't owned by hindus /indians but just serve indian cuisine.
P.S: I've been to many indian restaurants and an extremely small amount them actually serve beef so maybe you should check around for them

I don't know what kinds of restaurants you go to, but all the Indian restaurants I've been to have not had beef. There are a fair bit of of vegetarian ones, some that serve chicken or fish, but never beef or pork.
Most modern Hindus are not vegetarian, eg. the diet of Hindus living on the coasts of India consists of fish. I myself am vegetarian though, as are my parents, and several friends I know.

The beef dishes are influenced by the Muslim culture in India (you can see a huge Muslim influence in northern India).
I'd say that only about half of Indians are actually vegetarian.
The restaurants that I usually go to generally have impressive vegetarian menus, with half or more of the dishes on their menu being vegetarian. It's possible that you are going to restaurants that cater heavily towards Americans and aren't very authentic.

Because a lot of Indian restaurants are in the west. They are catering to their clients. Oh, and its Hindus who consider cows sacred not Indians per say. Some Indians are Muslims and do not care either way; 13.4% of all Indians in India are Muslims not hindus.

Indian cuisine as understood by most of the world is a result of the British Raj which adapted the meals to western tastes. Most meals found is Indian restaurants would be almost unknown in India

Uh, no. Most Indians are not vegetarians. Just because many of the Hindus don't eat beef, doesn't mean they don't eat other types of meat. Chicken, shellfish, fish, turkey, and pork are meat too, did you know that? And there are some slaughterhouses in India where they slaughter cattle.

hi ... most of the Indian eating places in India do not serve no-veg food. contained in those that serve, it incredibly is principally eggs, chicken, fish and lamb. The Muslim eating places serve purple meat dishes and the Christian owned ones serve purple meat and purple meat. outdoors India, most of the Indian eating place serve non-veg, specifically eggs, chicken, fish and lamb. those that serve purple meat are Muslim or Christian owned. almost all Hindus do not consume purple meat yet there's some who're now 'hamburgerized' and do consume purple meat and purple meat.

In India, there are 'Veg' restaurant....that is they advertize themsef as Veg Only restaurant......there are some veg-non-veg restaurant but these will not have beef.
There are some restaurants run by muslims, they serv beef but these are not 'veg' or 'veg-non-veg' restaurants...these are muslim hotels found only in muslim areas.
In western countries, these restaurants are for doing business.......so they will sell what people eat.
