Personally I won't eat anything that has been abused up until it's death. I prefer to not eat anything if I haven't seen where it lives, including fish. Although I do approve of catching and cleaning one's own meat because it brings us back to where the food came from.
So, despite my dislike of the label vegetarian, or vegan, I think that if you decide to use them to refer to yourself, then no, fish is absolutely prohibited in a vegetarian diet

No. Vegetarians don't eat any animals. Vegans don't eat any animal products (including dairy, eggs, and honey). There are people who are partial vegetarians--they eat primarily vegetarian, but add some fish and/or poultry.
That said, it's a free country (actually, here, it's a *lot* of free countries). People can use words incorrectly as they wish. So there will be a number of people who say they are vegetarian and eat fish.

Sure, they physically can, but any sort of dead animal flesh kinda contradicts the whole vegetarian thing. Aside from the fact that seafood can be horrible for you, the environment, and the other animals that get caught in the nets/lines (it's way more than you think and includes dolphins, turtles, birds, and 'cast-off' fish).

If your a vegetarian by choice, and only because of a dietary plan, then you might as well eat some fish every once in a while, you need some mercury, and its would include some extra protein, it'll only sacrafice a promise to your self, unless its your religion, then you've betrayed yourself in full, well, thats not exactly true...

It depends. My mom is a vegetarian, yet she eats chicken, turkey and all sea-food. My sister is a vegetarian, and she doesn't eat any animal meat at all. Depends on your comfort level, and what you like to eat! There are no rules!

A vegetarian CAN eat anything he or she likes. But they eat fish they can't really, truly call themselves vegetarian.
For people who are mostly veg by choice, but sometimes indulge in poultry or fish for whatever reason, I like the term "flexitarian."

Vegetarians do not eat any animal flesh. People who eat chicken or fish are NOT vegetarians.

Some people say that they are vegetarians but eat seafoods only. No meat or, be it pork, beef, or poultry. Depends on them.
