I have started the road to becoming healthier by limiting my chicken and fish intake, but I am finding it hard to cut out meat altogether. I am truly against the conditions I find the farm animals in and just get sad about the whole meat industry.
Any suggestions on eating with family and friends? Eating out at a restaurant?

Congratulations, you're on the right track! The trick is to do it gradually and don't get all obsessed. You can cook dishes that use more vegetable protein and less meat, and also dishes that mix meat with other foods so that you are satisfied without eating a whole big chunk of meat. For example, stir-fries instead of steak dinner. Another good meal is a stew with lots of different veggies, beans, and just a small quantity of meat or chicken. Tacos made with black beans instead of meat are delicious and healthy, and meatless chili is so good, you won't even notice that there's no meat in it.
good luck!

Slowly and gradually. If you need a meat fix try to buy organic free range meats in the meantime.
Family/friends are tricky - some will be supportive, others won't understand and will tease. Be prepared to bring your own food along to functions to reduce the risk of eating only bread all night.
Restaurants can be tricky too, but most now cater to vegies and those trying to eat healthy. If I don't find anything on the menu I ask the waiter/tress to ask the chef if he can prepare something special without meat. Most oblige.
Just stick by your guns if its what you believe in, good luck :)

At home it is easy, finish of what you have so it is not wasted. Or give them away to food pantry.
Buy a cook book that is totally vegetarian.
Then just do not buy any products that you wish to stay away from, that includes junk foods too.
Restaurant is easy if you are in a country like India where majority of the restaurants have vegetarian product and you can order them.
In other country you should make arrangement ahead of the time and see if they will cater to you, some just do not know how to so they will say no or the choice will be minimal and not suitable to your healthy life style and taste buds.
Now as far as friends go they should know batter but you can alwayss carry two or 3 vegetarian dishes and they need not be offended.

good for you for wanting to become healthier, cutting out meat is a very good start!
find some really nice recipes, there are loads on the vegetarian and vegan websites!
maybe start cooking some meals for your family and friends without meat, i did this and they ate the lot, couldn't believe how much you can eat without meat!
there are also lots of alternatives to meat available, so try some! i.e veggie sausages.
when eating out at restaurants there is nearly always a few choices for vegetarians, if there isn't ask the chef if he can cook you something veggie(something all good chefs should be able to do!)
have a look at this website, it gives you some lovely easy recipes

Good on you. It's good to see you're thinking about this: respect 2 ya.
Bear in mind that high concentrations of amino acids (e.g. animal protein in this case) is normally scarce in nature: so it's wired into our systems to eat it wherever we can. Hence the popularity (and addiction) to meat, and meat products. Most people don't do so well health wise though with abundant amounts of animal protein over a long time, so it's a very good reason to cut down.
Be kind, respectful, and patient with other people and family because of this. However, it's okay to be firm: this is your choice, and you don't need to apologize for trying to eat and live better. Just fel confident to order exactly what you want when eating: remember, you wouldn't buy a jumper you didn't want, so why buy food you don't want?
Keep in there, and hav fun. You'll do great.

You should get some good vegetarian cookbooks, either from the library or buy them. I'd suggest borrowing them first from the library until you find one with the best recipes (my favorite is Robin Robertson's "Vegan Planet").
There's ways to replace meat in just about every recipe you can think of. I substitute black beans and rice for beef and rice in stuffed peppers. I substitute black beans for beef in burritos and tacos. I substitute grated, seasoned and sauteed tempeh for ground beef.
If you simply are against conditions animals are raised in and don't have any objection to eating animals, period, you might want to look into finding local, trusted farmers. You could see for yourself how they raise their animals and local farmers need your support far more than multi-million dollar companies like Tyson. My personal reasons for not eating meat go beyond the way the animals are raised, but it looks like that's your main concern.
As for eating out, Chinese food places are a safe bet and so is Indian, Thai, Mexican and even most American fast food chains offer vegetarian options (even Burger King had a veggie burger last I checked). Mexican is always great - even Taco Bell - just ask for beans instead of meat, for instance.

there are many ways you can stop eating meat.
the best way, gradually keep cutting out animal meals. Example, first month, stop eating anything with a cow in it. Second month stop eating anything with a pig in it. so on.
At the same time increase eating beans, grains, seasonal vegetables, and fruits. If you have money you can buy faux meats too. but really beans and grains are the cheapest.
Oh that's wonderful news. You're on the right track. Find some Seitan, load up on beans. Cooking at home. That can get you started, the veggie cookbooks are great. Remember you can do it, and your body and animals will thank you

Start with fake meat that you can find in your local stores. There are many vegetarian or vegan restaurants out there that are actually good.

just go onto youtube and look up slaughter houses and animals. if that doesn't cause you to stop then your not all with it or just as inhumane as those assholes working there. just stop eating meat now. great job for your choice.
