Question:
Are cows treated better if they're from organic farms?

I don't really know how to phrase it. I just watched the movies Earthlings. At factory farms (slaughter houses?), they hang the cow upside down while it's still alive and cut off its legs. Then they start cutting chunks off the cow while its still alive. After watching Earthlings, I just can't eat meat anymore. Honestly, I believe I still need the protein, so I was planning on buying organic chicken/pork/beef. Do they treat their cows better when they slaughter them? Or do organic farms only take care of the cow up to when they go to a slaughterhouse?

Sorry if you don't understand my question, I can't tell if i'm clear or not.

I never saw that movie, but that doesn't sound right. There's laws and regulations on how cows are supposed to be slaughtered, and if they cut off its legs while alive, it's clearly in violation of that. Temple Grandin (I had to do a paper on her for a class I took on Autism) developed a technique to stun and kill the cow. While many vegans object to it, it's supposed to cause less pain. There may be some places that slaughter animals like that, but they're violating the law.

And organic does not mean treated better. It just means no pesticides nor anti-biotics. So, that may mean that if a cow gets stick, instead of making it better, they just kill it. Or it may mean that they actually treat it better so that it doesn't get sick in the first place. The ONLY way to know whether or not the animals were treated humanely is to go to the farm yourself, which many people are doing now a days.

And obviously you need protein. But there's plenty of protein in beans, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. I eat approximately 1200 calories a day, 1500 on my lifting days (I have issues meeting the calories when I eat homemade food), and STILL get 60g of protein on a vegan diet.

Make the decision for yourself. If you want to eat meat, take responsibility for it. Seek out places that are relatively humane and give them your patronage. If the movie truly affected you that much, you should be motivated to either do that or become vegan. It's up to you.

It really seems as though you just want to present your viewpoint rather than actually ask a question. However, I have a similar viewpoint from a slightly different direction, so I will answer. Of course I am concerned with the inhumanity of largescale livestock farming but I also believe that products from animals kept in those conditions are inferior and potentially unsafe. However, I do consume eggs from free range hens raised by a friend of mine at her home and organic milk from a small local dairy. I know exactly what they eat and how they live.

What You saw is a COMPLETE FLAT OUT LIE cows in the meat industry are treated and killed ethically.Cows are killed quickly with a piston gun which sends a small high-speed rod into the brain of the the cow killing it instantly and painlessly, they cow is then slaughtered AFTER death.don't let some propoganda ruin the joys of meat eating.

You don't need to eat animal flesh to get protein. There is protein in beans, and other vegetables, and in brown rice.

Most people get too much protein because they gorge themselves on dead animals as though they were a cat or a dog, when in reality humans have neither the teeth nor the digestive tract to digest meat.

"Earthlings" is just a bunch of propaganda, half-truths, and outright lies...I watched it and it did not make me want go vegan, and the majority of ranchers and farmers, organic or not, do not abuse livestock in the way vegans and animal activists try make out, if they did, and the animal was "tortured" the meat would be unfit to eat , and could not be marketed. You can buy organic meat but it is generally more expensive than "standard" meat.

yes, organic cows are treated better. they get all the choice jobs, drive better cars, and statiscally theres a lower suicide rate among them. other perks include lower heart diesease, front row seats at the show, and they live in much better houses.
