These people are referring to the website petakillsanimals.com. While PETA has humanly euthenized animals, these website fail to mention all the fact, such that these animals would have been euthenized by shooting them or by gas(which takes several minutes to kill the animal and it is not painless) if PETA had not taken them.

Unfortunately pet overpopulation is a big problem, there is simply not enough homes for all of these animals. Dog/Cats are euthenized everyday by shelter all over the country. To be honest there is really no such thing as a no-kill shelter. No-kill shelter turn away numerous animals every day, knowing full well these dogs/cats will end up in kill shelters. No-kill shelter only take in adoptable pets(young, healthy, friendly, etc), and a certain amount, which is why they do not need to euthenize.

Many of the people that read the website about peta killing animals fail to realize that there is an agenda behind the website.

The website peta kills animals is put out by the CCF. The CCF is a front group for big tobbacco, resturaunts, meat industry, and alcohol. The Center for Consumer Freedom is a nonprofit corporation run by lobbyist Richard Berman. Berman is known as a spin doctor. He misinforms, alters the truth and down right lies to get his message across.

This is the same man that went against the group, mothers against drunk driving(MADD) and wanted to lower the legal blood alcohol level. He goes against groups that are will impact the profits of his financial backers. The group denies the obestiy problem in the U.S. and is against Unions and a minimum wage for workers.

In Bermans own words his strategy is to shoot the messenger ... we’ve got to attack their credibility as spokespersons

Unfortunately, many people take the things they read at face value instead of looking into it. Anyone can put up a website, but it is up to the reader to determine for themselves if the facts are true, or distorted to fill an agenda.

There are always two sides to an argument, and usually the truth lies somewhere in between the two sides.

Defensive meat eaters like to play the "natural" card, in the belief that because vegos eat plants then it must be because we crave a natural existence and that we've misunderstood what constitutes "natural". As omnivores, our bodies are physically able to extract nutrients from animal foods but that doesn't mean that we have to. As evolved beings, we are able to make choices. The modern western diet that includes daily (often at all three main meals) intake of meat is not natural and has caused humans to farm animals at an unsustainable level, which involves causing gross suffering to the animals - by far the main motivation for people choosing not to eat them.

Apparently a few anti-peta web sites took a quote from Ingrid Newkirk out of context. Prior to being the President of PETA she worked at an animal control facility and had to put animals down through euthanasia. In an interview she talked about how heartbreaking it was that these animals had to be euthanized because of pet overpopulation or because they were ill or injured. The anti-peta websites turnned that around and tried to use it as evidence against peta saying Ingrid Newkirk euthanises animals everyday at the Peta Headquarters. In reality Peta doesn't have any veterinary or shelter facilities and does not deal directly with euthanizing animals. They do however work with animal shelters accross the country trying to support spay and neutering, animal adoptions, and overall responsible pet ownership. The claims that they kill 20,000 pets a year is entirely false and just proves that some people will do anything to make people favor their views. I hope Ann N got an F on her essay for not doing her research.

I have heard PETA kills animals, but I think it's as a last resort. There are just too many sick or injured animals out there to save. The website the previous poster put up is just a PETA bashing group sponsored by large corporations who are ONLY interested in making profits from selling products that PETA and other health, ethics, and environmental organizations counter. This organization was defending KFC (a corporate sponsor) in their use of Trans Fat oils despite the fact that this oil is very unhealthy and there are healthier oils to use as alternatives. KFC was sued and forced to change the oil they used or something like that. This organization also backs up big tobacco so you might want to know your facts before resorting to some $$$ biased "consumer freedom watchgroup" such as the Center for Consumer Freedom. A more valid name would be the Center for the Protection of Corporate Profits.

Anyhow, back to PETA: They are not a perfect organization. All organizations have hypocritical practices and PETA is one of them. They are monumental in the animal rights movement, but they are not THE animal rights movement. You can still be an animal rights activist/advocate and not be involved with PETA. I see PETA as a great resource for info more than anything.

It's good to be critical of PETA but there is no need to completely disregard them. Their main goal is to fight for animal rights despite their questionable actions they take at times. A lot of PETA bashers and organizations care more about the profits PETA threatens by informing people of the truth. That is why they try so hard to discredit PETA and expose their faults.

In response to: "If you love animal, which we all do, then find a better organization that is within your thought process and is WILLINGLY to go to the extra mile to help animals and does not do a bunch of stunts just tol get media attention."

If you love animals, you wouldn't let them breed, breed them on purpose, leave them behind in a hurricane, or dump them off somewhere then let someone else clean up your mess so you can call them hypocrites.

PETA euthanizes the animals that they cannot find homes for.

This is seen as hypocrisy to some.

That is the most I know because I try to avoid all the meat eaters who spend all their time looking for ways to call all vegetarians and vegans on Earth hypocrites. Many of them like to believe that if we wash our sheets, then we are bad people so that they never have to look at their own actions.

So many people are horrible and irresponsible pet owners, but they will never have to think about the terrible ways they have treated their pets if they blame the people who tried to save the pets but couldn't. I have seen enough of these horrible "pet owners" that I don't really care about their complaints.

After Katrina, many pet owners left their animals chained up in the yard or locked in the house to die... They didn't even give the pets a chance to go toward safety. This is especially odd because people didn't evacuate quickly. It would simply have been too much trouble for people to take their pet into the car, or at least release them so that they had a fighting chance. There is your example of human cruelty.

Who knows, it may be worse, but just because I am a vegetarian doesn't mean that I am focusing on what PETA does. PETA does not represent me, and I don't represent PETA.

They do kill thousands of cats and dogs.

So does every SPCA and Humane Society.

That's what happens when people refuse to spay/neuter their animals.

People just love to point out that PeTA is against eating animals but they euthanize cats and dogs.

They are probably the same @ssholes that didn't fix their pets and helped them overpopulate. Then people that actually care are the ones that are forced to stick the needle in and end their lives.

PeTA does free spay/neuter surgeries so they do more to help cats and dogs than those hypocrites that think they have dirt on PeTA.

PeTA has many problems but euthanasia isn't one of them.

PETA is a group that whores media attention. Pretty much like Jesse Jackson. Yes, it has been documented and witnesed by a member here on this board, that PETA was in New Orleans euthanizing dogs and cats after Katrina. Was it humane? Who knows nobody knows because refuses to answer any questions about it.

If you love animal, which we all do, then find a better organization that is within your thought process and is WILLINGLY to go to the extra mile to help animals and does not do a bunch of stunts just tol get media attention.

I wrote a 10 page essay on it actually.

http://www.petakillsanimals.com

Peta beleives that pets should be euthanized after a certain amount of time. Euthanized meaning killed, while the previous owner thinks it is going to a great home. They are very misleading. I would really suggest reading some stuff on that website, they have some pretty convincing stuff.

Plus, it doesn't help that peta has been charged of throwing puppies in a restaurant dumpster or that they have a large walk in freezer (i wonder what that is for eh).
