It says in the ingredients on the 'Old El Pasa (Green Chiles) Refried Beans' that it contains hydrogenate d lard. My family and I are vegetarians.

Any type of lard is animal fat. For some reason products like that in the US seem to often contain lard, so check a few labels as there are some that don't. Hopefully other answerers will be able to give a few brand names here (I'm not in the US - come to Australia... our tinned bean-y stuff doesn't contain lard!).

Lard is pig fat. I suggest getting a refund from the store and get a low fat variety. Make sure to check the ingredients.

In the superstore, fruits are usually chosen much too soon. Some are rocks, many are wrong. Some of the fruit and vegetables are generally right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.

Fruits are identified as ripened flower ovaries which produce seeds.
