Question:
I want to be a vegetarian but I love meat?!?!?!?

I love animals and stand up for them. In the future I want to help with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. I refrain from buying most animal clothes. Many can, and do call me a 'tree-hugger'.

I want to do a little more and become a vegetarian, but I LOVE MEAT. I can't help it, but I just do. Is there any types of vegetarians types that will allow me to eat meat, but also in a better way.

Please help with any ideas you have on this and send me any sites too.

Most of us vegetarians loved meat at some point. You just need to decide which is more important to you. Would you eat a dog, a cat, or a parrot? No? Then why would you eat a cow, pig or chicken? A dead animal is a dead animal-just because it was RAISED to be food doesn't make it right. I loved the taste of meat most of my life, but when I realized I was using my body as a graveyard for decaying animal flesh, it just lost its appeal. I don't care for fake meats, but there are many of them on the market that have the same taste and texture as dead critters-try some of them to see if you find one you like. I am told that morningstar farms makes some meat analogs that are very hard to distinguish from the real thing. If you love animals, don't eat them. If you love meat more, then don't claim to love animals. Also, don't feel like it has to be an "all or nothing" proposition-you can transition to being a veggie as you find new foods that you can enjoy. It took me a while, but I have been veggie for many years now and meat no longer has ANY appeal at all. I think its all about how you look at it. I started trying ethnic foods that were vegetarian, and found that the variety of those was enough to keep me motivated. Now, the thought of eating a dead animal just makes grosses me out, but there was a time when I thought I could never give up meat-I think its all just about perspective. Good luck!

If you still want to eat meat, but not as much, then try becoming a Pescetarian. This way you can still eat fish and chicken and other fowl.

If you really want to become a vegetarian, then you are going to have to stop eating meat all together.

I use to love eating meat before I became a vegetarian. I'm sure I still wouldn't mind the taste now, because I love how cooked meat smells. Though, some people can't stand the taste, smell or sight of meat.

If I ever did eat meat (worst case scenario) I could never enjoy it.

You either have to put your love of eating meat aside, or put your love of animals aside. It's your choice. I can understand how some people can feel conflicted with this. You may ask why you would want to give something up that you are used to eating and that still tastes good to you.

For some, it's moral reasons. No matter if they loved eating meat or not, their conscience and morals decided against it, and chose the opposite of what their body wanted. (not necessarily needed)

There's nothing wrong in being called a "tree-hugger". You should be proud to be so compassionate about the environment and the animals that live on this Earth with us. I feel that we have just as much responsibility to protect and care for animals as we should are fellow man or woman. =)

All in all, it's your decision. What do you want to do? Do you think this will make you happier? Do you think it will make a difference in your state of health and how you feel as an animal lover?

It's good that you like animals and that you're interested in vegetarianism. The type of vegetarian who eats meat is called a meat eater, no matter what other words they've come up with. Whether a person eats just fish, or just chicken, or just whales, or just aardvarks, or just kangaroos, or just cats... or just seagulls, they are meat eaters. Vegetarians don't eat animals. I hear human beings taste like pork, but I wouldn't recommend that.

That doesn't mean you can't work for protection of species and the environment--- eat less animals and have meatless days. Or how about committing to kill animals yourself for meat instead of having someone else do it for you. If you can do that, then stay a meat eater. If you cannot, try vegetarian.

It's a wonderful way of life though. I've been vegetarian or vegan most of my life. I have not regretted it or missed meat at all. There's plenty of great tasting food without the flesh.

If you're going to miserable being a vegetarian, then don't do it. Just buy free range meat and try to buy organic. Every little thing you do can help. You don't have to be a full blown vegetarian to love animals. You could maybe not eat meat a few nights a week. I am a vegetarian and happy, but do what is right for you.

You can't be a vegetarian and eat meat BUT YOU CAN BE A BETTER MEAT EATER!

1. Eat less meat

2. Only eat free range - I don't know about cattle but pigs and poultry are often factory farmed

3. If you eat seafood ensure it's responsibly caught/farmed - eg. don't eat shark's fin and don't support over fishing, be aware of bi-catch issues also

4. Encourage other meat-eaters to practice 1, 2 and 3 above.

Please also keep in mind that many vegetarians [such as myself] "loved" the taste of meat and gave it up anyway. Doing what you think is right is not always easy.

There are no vegetarians that eat meat.

BUT! There are lots of great "fake meats" available. MorningStar, for example, has some interesting products which include meatless hot dogs, corn dogs, and bacon strips.

You can wean yourself off meat by having a fake-meat day every other day, and before you know it, you won't be able to tell the difference. Plus, it's really low calorie, so you can eat more!

I still use my family's old meat recipes, I just replace the meat with fake-meat.

Before I became vegetarian, I used to like meat too.

But, I gave it up for the animals.

There are a lot fo mock meats that are delish.

Pescetarian is eating fish but no other animals, which you could do.

Not much to do, just give up the meat it's not that hard after awhile.

I see where you are coming from, you love animals and dont like them suffering, but you also love meat. The first thing its good to see you care about animals :) even if you do choose to eat meat. Also if you want to become a vegeterian you will have to cut out all meat, but you can buy fox meats, fake meats made from tofu, like tofu sausages or patties instead of the meat. If you really dont want to give up meat try going free range. Buy free range chicken and free range meats. Maby you should try the fox meats first and see if your cravings for meat go away.

I used to love meat too and it was hard for me to give up, but it became easier the more I learned about it. Now when I smell it cooking I don't even smell food. All I smell is a dead body being set on fire. It's disgusting, that smell. Makes me want to puke.

Don't eat any meat unless you killed and butchered it yourself. That should cure your love for the stuff.

if you love meat then why do you want to be a vegetarian?

there comes a time when you have to choose between what you like and what you want to 'stand' for or feel more passionately about.

you don't have to be vegetarian to help with a conservation for animals, however i feel you can't truly care for animals if you subject them to be housed and slaughtered for food for you, when there are alternatives.

Yes.

Here we go...

Pescatarian (also spelled pescetarian)-fish only

Vegetarian (Lacto-ovo- vegetarian)-eggs and dairy

Lacto-vegetarian -only dairy

Ovo-vegetarian -only eggs

Macrobiotic-

The macrobiotic diet, revered by some for its healthy and healing qualities, includes unprocessed vegan foods, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and allows the occasional consumption of fish. Sugar and refined oils are avoided. Perhaps the most unique qualifier of the macrobiotic diet is its emphasis on the consumption of Asian vegetables, such as daikon, and sea vegetables, such as seaweed.

There is also morningstar and many different veggie-meats out there.

Well, #1 If you like something so much why give it up? I think you cant still stand up for animals while still eating the marketed ones (Cow, Pig, poultry etc) There is a type of vegetarianism that allows you to eat seafood, but not land animals.. Appparently the fish are tu cute to keep out of your diet. As far as joining the idiots on Shepherd Conservation Society, Thats up to you. I suggest you watch the Whale Wars first, and see how he flaggerantly throws his crew around and puts them in deadly situations... Might want to rethink it then... As his motto on the boat is... "If your not prepared to die, you dont belong here" said it in season one.... so... Goodluck... Your pursuing a good cause, but I think you may be going in the extremist direction.

Not all members of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society are vegetarians. Their mission is to protect the oceans around the world. Their website says, "Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS)! Although we are best known for our volunteer crews who sail the high seas on board our conservation vessels to protect marine wildlife, we need assistance in many ways. Our campaigns are only possible because of the day-to-day efforts of our many volunteers. We're always in need of outreach volunteers, fundraisers, donated supplies, information distribution, research work, etc., etc..." Check it out!

That's the trick of "forbidden fruits". You can't love animals while killing them. This is not eternity. Many of you misinterpret the true "love" and "passion".
