It is not. Veganism is much more than just a simple diet:

"The word 'veganism' denotes a philosophy and way of living which seeks to end the idea of animals as property and exclude all forms of intentional exploitation of, use of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, research or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, including humans and the environment.

In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

So basically what this all means is anything that uses animals for any reason is not vegan. From foods, to entertainment to clothing if it contains animals it is wrong.

Here is stuff to avoid (the lists are not limited to what is listed but are a short guideline):

Here is a list of animal ingredients:

Animals as clothes:

Leather, skins, furs, wool, silk, down, feathers...

Animals as entertainment:

Circuses, rodeos, zoos, aquariums, animal fights, animal races, hunting...

Companies that DO NOT test on animals(however CHECK INGREDIENTS they only verify testing not ingredients):

Vegan products:

http://www.veganstore.com/ (I know them well and they aren't doing as well in this economy but they are a great source for awesome hard to find stuff and they are very friendly and giving even if they really don't have much if anything to give)

There is no vegans who wear leather or use products tested on animals or eat animal products or anything like that anyone who says that just simply isn't vegan. There is also no vegans for health reasons because there is nothing unhealthy about wearing leather or going to a circus or using a product tested on animals nor is their anything unhealthy about using somebody else for your purposes. Veganism is about the animals pure and simple. Yes veganism can be healthier for you and the planet and has other great benefits but the reason for living vegan is the animals.

Veganism is a system of dietary and lifestyle practices that seeks to promote health and peace while reducing the suffering of both people and animals. Vegans are vegetarians who do not eat any foods (eggs, dairy products, meat, etc.) derived from animal sources. Most vegans also do not use products that require for their production the death or suffering of animals, such as leather, fur, wool, and certain cosmetics.

Being Vegan means not consuming anything including animal product in it.

This includes meat, lard, fish, dairy products or anything that came from an animal.

Depending on their reason for being vegan (some for animal rights some for health) some people choose not to where clothing that came from an animal's fur or skin.

Veganism can be diffucult at times but when taken on correctly it will be worth it:)

A vegan is one who refrains from utilizing animals for food or clothing as much as is humanly possible.

FIgure out what that means- no animal products at all in your eating. None, nothing from an animal's body at all.

@Dude - you are mistaken. Not all cakes have animals products in them, there are plenty of vegan options out there for cakes, pies, cookies, etc. And chocolate is actually from a plant, so it is vegan. Processed milk chocolate is not, but most dark chocolate products are vegan.

When you say you are Vegan it means you won't eat anything from animals. Those foods include but are not limited to, eggs, milk, meat, and others. It also means that you won't eat anything that includes something from animals. For example, you wouldn't eat Cake because it has milk and eggs, or butter because of its milk, and you wouldn't eat light chocolate because of it's milk, etc. Some vegans go so far that they wouldn't wear anything from animals like furs or Leather. Hoped this helped
