I grabbed a slice of pizza without realizing it had meat under the cheese, I immediately spit it out, would you still consider me a vegetarian? It tasted horrible, lol. I blame my mother as she didn't tell it had meat on it. People that are non-veg are posting here, and I don't quite understand why...

Of course you're still vegetarian.

Every section of Y!A has trolls- sad little people who are so ineffectual in real life that spewing hatred makes them feel like they have a tiny amount of power.

Ignore them- they all go away eventually.

Why wouldn't you be vegetarian? Vegetarianism is not eating meat because of some other reason other than a label that you put on yourself. If you are doing it for a real reason other than a label, you would know that you are still a vegetarian. Just because an accident happened doesn't mean you are all of the sudden not a vegetarian. it also isn't about how long you have done it for. So no, you don't have to start all over again with how long. Again, it isn't about that. It is a way of life. Pledging that you won't be apart of the torturing of innocent animals. That you yourself will not increase the demand for meat. And if you are vegetarian because you just don't like meat, why would you be asking the question anyway?

Been there, done that several times. It's a very bad feeling. I've done it maybe a dozen times since I went veg, and I still consider myself vegetarian. Now, if you went out and BOUGHT a piece of pepperoni pizza and ate the meat knowingly, then the line gets fuzzier. You're okay though.

Personally, I think you can call yourself vegetarian if 99% of the time, you don't eat meat. An occasional lapse (you always hear about vegetarians who sneak bacon) is not the end of the world. And, as always, if you get tricked into eating meat, it's not your fault and it happens to everyone.

Y!A policies are fairly clear about open forums, and what sorts of answers are permitted, and which ones violate their policies. To that, forums are not "closed" or "restricted" to certain users. As someone who is asking a question, it's upon you to weigh the validity, accuracy, and usefulness of a particular answer. I might recommend seeking Y!A answers staff for further clarification about their policies.

To answer your question, I'd say you're still a vegetarian since you didn't knowingly choose to eat meat. If you went to a steakhouse and ordered a filet, then it's safe to say it's an entirely different issue.

To the "non-veg" issue. While some may not be vegetarians, its entirely possible that they may work with, be dating, married to, or related to a vegetarian. This perspective is often times quite useful when certain issues come up, as I'm sure you can understand.

I'm not a vegetarian or vegan, but I enjoy reading up on it for general interest. I don't think I have ever left a rude comment, but I will post if I feel I can make a positive contribution.

PS: I definitely think you are still a vegetarian. Your immediate reaction of spitting it out & being concerned shows your dedication to vegetarianism.

I feel you. I had an incident last year at the campus cafeteria. I asked the lady if the beans had any meat. She smiled and said no. Then, just as I was about to take a bite, I looked down at my spoon and saw a hunk of pork flesh smiling back at me.

You did not make the conscious decision to eat the meat, so you are vegetarian.

Yes, you are still vegetarian. There are many instances when we accidentally ingest something that has meat or broth in it. We didn't mean to so no harm. What is does mean is that the people around you aren't being supportive or realize that you are serious about your decision. Be more careful about what you eat and realize that sometimes you have to pack your own snack in order to eat a healthy meal.

Getting the tiny bit of meat in your mouth, whether you spat it out or not, does not change or affect your vegetarian status. You are a vegetarian.

Even if someone forced you to eat meat against your wishes you are still a vegetarian.

It is a mind set and a choice. You would no longer be a vegetarian only if the decision was your own.

Republicans are still Republicans no matter if we have a Democrat for a president. You are a vegetarian.

"Vegetarian" is a self identification. It's not like the food police are looking over your shoulder getting ready to revoke your vegetarian card because you spit out a bite of pizza. If you identify as a vegetarian then you are. No one else needs to validate your lifestyle choices for them to be true.

Don't make a big deal out of it. It's not like you did it intentionally. Yes, you're still a vegetarian.

Now, if you bit into it, realized it had meat after biting into it, and kept eating anyway...then you wouldn't be :)

i don't think you'll find any vegetarian who hasn't had a bite of soup before realizing that there was beef broth in it, or taken a bite of something in a restaurant that they ordered vegetarian only to find a piece of chicken, etc. We live in an omnivore world, and things like that are going to happen. It's not something you decided to do. You're cool.

Well I'm not a vegitarian but if you feel that it is not right to eat it then you are a vegitarian. But if you don't like it... well I guess you could be considered a vegitarian but do you not like any meat at all??? Because if you don't eat any meat (fish, chicken, cow, etc.) then you are a vegitarian.

it was an accident, that's all.

People are free to post in whatever section they choose.

Yes. If it was an accident, you will be fine. It's not like you chewed and swallowed it. Or savored it. Just be more careful next time.
